Exocet Sting 124 – Test 2010

Exocet Sting 124 - Board Test 2010Exocets aim with the Exocet Sting 124 was to offer a board following the latest concept for sailors looking for a very fast freeride slalom-board.

The Exocet Stings test results doesn’t quite match Exocets ambitions with the board but still Exocet Sting offers very god characteristics for the beginners and intermediates. The Exocet Sting offers really early planning, god gybing abilities combined with smoothness, stability and an auto-pilot mode. Boardtests.com

Hard facts – Exocet Sting 124:

Manufacturer: Exocet / Flying Fish, exocet-original.com
Length: 247 cm
Width: 73 cm
Volume: 124 L
Weight: 7,8 (Wood) 8,8 (DT)
Sail range: 5,0 – 8,5

Windsport.com Apr 28, 2010 – Exocet Sting 124:

The Exocet Sting 124 is smooth and stable and provides enough speed to keep things interesting for all riders.

The Exocet Sting is the easiest freeride board to turn off the tail without loosing speed. This makes it the least technical to jibe and can immediately increase your completion percentage.

The downside to this ease and comfort is that you are at the mercy of the board when it comes to tightening the radius of your turn. It’s a hassle-free ride for any level of recreational windsurfer and offers a reasonable amount of speed and easy jibing.

Boards (UK) August 2010 – Exocet Sting 124:

The Exocet Sting 124 feels flat and wide and skims across the water with a very passive feel underfoot – the most passive board in the group. The Exocet Sting is quite a contrast to narrower-tailed boards like the Fanatic Hawk and Starboard Carve, which feel poised to turn at the twitch of a toe. Instead the Exocet sets its direction and off it goes.

When it comes to the gybes, advanced sailors looking to crank the board full power into a tight gybe will find the Exocet a little ‘sedated’ for them. However, where this board really shines is for the less experienced.

The Exocet Sting has a very passive ride combined with great early planing and gybing talents for the less experienced. The Exocet Sting is an easy board to sail, and its wide, rounded nose gives quite a different sensation to most of the other boards within this group.

Other windsurfing boards in the same test:

Exocet Sting 124, Fanatic Hawk 120, Goya FXR 125, JP X-Cite Ride 120, Naish Global Freeride, Quatro Freeride, RRD FireRide 125, Starboard Carve 121 and Tabou Rocket 125.

Wingsail for windsurfing – A game changer?

A brand new Sail brand has just entered the market. The US based designer Stanislav Mostoviy, with background in aerodynamics, has designed a full profile wing sail. Bodom Iceboards – Test report by Antti Peltola – FIN9

I got the opportunity to do some test runs with recently manufactured iceboard Bodom sled made by Finnish company called Airice Oy. While ice conditions and weather in Finland is as good as it could get, I couldn´t be more excited about the test. My previous experience with ice sailing is with Hiberna, and DIY […]
