Anti-slip solution for Ice Boards DIY

An important part of Ice Board construction is the anti-slip solution. The Ice Board manufacturer Hiberna uses sports-hall floor-mat, another common non-slip solution for Ice bords is to use belt sander sand-paper.

Anti slip – Grip tape and Aluminium beam will do the trick
We use grip-tape normally used as anti-slip for longboards. The grip tape is bought on running meter and we mounted the most hard grained grip-tape available on the local market. The non-slip solution should be comlemented with an aluminum beam, as show in the picture. The aluminum beam will work as non-slip and will provide additional stiffness to the Ice Board.

Ice Board – Plywood paint job DIY

It’s time to paint the ice boards but first we smooths the edges with an palm router to make the edges look better and to become more durable.

Primer and boat varnish suitable for Ice Boards

We use a primer for outdoor use and boat varnish. We’ve hung the boards in the ceiling so that we can paint the entire ice board in one go. The drying time is extremely long, about 16 hours in room temperature, but hopefully the end result will be worth the extra effort.

Mid project report – Ice Board (DIY)

The Ice Board project is progressing slowly but surely. Last year at this time, we already had half a meter of snow. This year the snow shines by its absence which is positive when we’re talking Ice Boarding, unfortunately we have no ice yet but I expect it to be “solved” later on in December.

Make the Ice Board Template stiffer

The Ice Board templates has been glued to stiff floor paper and Johanna are drawing the out lines.

Ice Board decks – 20 mm Plywood

The Ice Board decks are made of 20 mm plywood which will be stiffened later on in this project, more on this in the next post.

One plywood board = 4 Ice Board decks

A standard plywood board (240 cm * 120 cm) is sufficient for 4 Ice Board decks. Build the Ice Board together with your mates to keep the overall cost down:)

Ice Board prototype

It´s time to get started with the planned Ice Board project. I have ordered longboard trucks (25 cm) and has begun to “prototype” an Ice Board in Photoshop. The longboard trucks will be delivered during this week. Once the Ice board shape has been tested on my friends and in IRL, I will post a full-scale drawing here on boardtests.com.
